Tis the Season to say, "Merry Christmas!"

Merry Christmas! All this politcal correctness that is sweeping the nation lately is really starting to get frustrating. When I hear that so many employess of businesses are being instructed to only say, "Happy Holidays," and not, "Merry Christmas," it makes me wonder where this is all heading. Come on, give me a break, it's a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. If that offends you, then don't celebrate Christmas.

The true purpose of Christmas is to celebrate the fact that God sent His only begotten son, Jesus Christ, to come to this earth and live among sinful mankind. He lived a sinless life and was crucified on the cross of Calvary to pay the price for all our sins. He rose from the grave on the third day and then acsended up into heaven. The forteenth chapter of John tells us that Jesus will come again someday and receive us (those that have trusted Him as Savior to forgive them of their sins) to Himself, that where He is, we will be also. What a celebration that will be! The greatest gift available for Christmas is Jesus Christ. Merry Christmas!

Isn't it interesting to see this PC play out at Christmas? I would guess that it will continue to play out in the years to come. Our society is truly becoming a pluralistic social experiment. That is, a society with no common history, values, culture. What we have in common is that we live in a place called the United States of America. We come from places the world over, believe many different kinds of things, and practice many faiths. In a pluralistic world, no one story gets all the air time. So the historical evangelicalism of the U.S. is increasingly being pushed to the sidelines. But I also think this is a wonderful atmosphere for God's people to adjust to the new world and live differently. We are meant to be IN the world, not OF. We were never promised a Christian nation. What does that mean anyway? In a pluralistic society ALL stories get a hearing. That means in an environment of tolerance the Way of Jesus is as valuable as any other story and we have the space to compel and convince with our words and more importantly with our lives! By our actions they will know who we are. Great topic to bring up. Merry Christmas! :-)

Hey Dave; Thanks for the comments. It is amazing to see the change in my short life time. You can't even go out to shop for a Christmas Tree, they only sell Holiday Trees. Its' just sad to see that the Godly heritage that we have probably taken for granted for too long is fading away. Your right, it does provide for a great challenge for Christians today to live the lives we were meant to live, to be the church. God Bless, Tony
